I Lost My Best Friend Today

Bucky "Buckster" Martin
October 6th, 2000 ~ June 8th 2011
I'm going to miss you little buddy.

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Damn that hurts to hear, wish I could be there to give you a big hug too. I wish there was ANYthing I could do for you, but know that I can't - so just know that there are tons of us out here loving on you from all parts of the planet, hoping to ease your hurt.

My condolences Captain. Been down that road myself.
Remember the good times and they will always be a part of us.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I has been so hard for my wife and I. It just doesn't seem completely real to me yet. Bucky was always with me while I was at the house, I keep expecting him to come walking down the hall to find me.

I'm so glad I'm off work for a couple weeks because of having surgery, I don't think I could deal with everyone asking how I was in person. I know I'd lose it. Thanks for the hugs and the love, you guys are the best!

I'm so sorry to hear about you losing little Bucky. The loss of a pet is so devastating.

I have tears in my eyes right now looking at those pictures of him.

It looks like he brought a lot of love and laughter into your life.

So sorry :(

Take the time you need and rest and remember your friend.

My mom actually has the poem framed in her office, given to her last year when she lost her furry family member. I hope to see all my lost four legged friends again one day.

You have my deepest sympathies, Captain, and thanks for sharing with us how cherished Bucky was to you. Your words and pictures were, indeed, a fitting tribute.

Best wishes for a quiet and uneventful mending now and after your surgery.

I totally empathize with your devastating loss. I have worked from home for 5 years and was used to our dogs being there. I was gutted to have to take one of our schnauzers, Beamish to the vets last week and come home alone. I take some solice in the fact that he was much loved and had a great twelve years with us. I'm sure that Bucky was as lucky as he was.
