Our Trip to Zombieland

When my wife and I went to the drive-in back in October of 2009 to see Zombieland, we both noticed something funny about the theme park at the end of the film they called "Pacific Playland". I had this funny feeling that I had been to the theme park as soon as the girls in the film arrived there. It wasn't until Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) climbed on to the wild mouse ride that we both blurted out "Wild Adventures!" We had been on that ride dozens of times, it's called Bug Out! or at least it was till the movie came out, because it's now called "Go Bananas!" So earlier this year we traveled back up to Valdosta, Georgia to see Lynyrd Skynyrd play for free at Wild Adventures and we took some comparison photos just for fun, here they finally are.

My shots are as close as I could get, I forgot to bring actual screen captures with me so I was shooting from memory. I have noticed that the must have done some digital manipulations, because it looks like rides have been digitally pushed around.

I think this is where Tallahassee finally gets his Twinkie.

Boomerang in the background of a few shots.

Rattler is a pretty fun ride unless your running across the pad while its going! (Which would be impossible to do, because the floor drops down to a poit while the ride is running. Movie Magic)

Riding on Bug Out! They wouldn't let me take my shotgun on-board though?! It is still the funnest ride in the park with or without zombies.

A few shots of where the Hummer went in the lake.

Jen in front of the currently broken and partially dismantled "Double Shot" ride. It was weird when we were there all of the rides featured in Zombieland were closed, torn up, and many had new names too.

Here is a couple shots of the Aviator that Woody Harrelson swings on while shooting zombies. I didn't grab a screen capture for this scene from the movie.

Here's a few for the Skynyrd fans!

Blueberry Blackberry Cobbler

I just realized I never posted my cobbler recipe that I promised Mr. Macabre I would. I can't remember where I got this recipe, but it's pretty tasty and easy to make. You can make it with blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or even a combination of berries like I did here with this version of the recipe.

Ingredients
2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries, thawed
2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries, thawed
3/4 cup sugar, divided
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons cold butter
3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions;
In a large bowl, combine the berries, 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch,
lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Transfer to a 2-qt. baking dish coated with cooking spray.

In a small bowl, combine the flour, lemon peel, baking powder, salt,
baking soda and remaining sugar; cut in butter until mixture
resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in buttermilk just until moistened.

Drop by tablespoonfuls onto blueberry mixture.

Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Pair with vanilla ice cream.

Serve warm. Yield: 8 servings.

Enjoy

Lake Catherine Blueberry Farm

We went to the Lake Catherine Blueberry Farm this morning to pick some berries to use in a trifle and a cobbler.

Lake Catherine Blueberries, owned by Dustin Lowe and family, extends the invitation to participate in the U-pick phase of the blueberry harvest. The field will be open daily until Saturday, June 5th.

There will be a $1 per person cover charge (18 and older) and then $4 per pound for any berries that make it to the bucket.

The farm is located at 5849 Lake Catherine Road in Groveland Florida, which is 3/4 of a mile north of highway 50, on highway 19. Look for the U-pick sign. Call Dustin at 352-536-4324, or email lakecatherineblueberries@yahoo.com with any questions.

The blueberries were so juicy and delicious!

I'll post pictures and recipes of our trifle and cobbler later this weekend.

The berries are so tasty and sweet, they make you smile when you eat them.

Monster Movie Double-Feature

Every Friday night at 8PM EST, the 100 Years of Monster Movies team has been running monster movie double-feature “chat-along” webcasts, with prizes and interaction from thousands of fellow fans of bad cinema.

You may recall that this began as a one-time marathon event the weekend of March 26-28 with over fifty films hosted by dozens of “horror hosts” LIVE from the Horrorhound Weekend convention in Indianapolis. The weekend also featured appearances by George A. Romero, Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

The event proved so popular that the 100YMM team continued the event on Fridays, without hosts, but with tons of fans chatting along during the films, and trivia contests and giveaways. The team has, admittedly, been playing catchup, setting up programming on some Fridays as late as the afternoon of the show.

But now, the first schedule for the next few weeks has been locked, with double features continuing through May 28. After that date, the team plans to expand the events with some special elements that will be announced soon.

So, here is the schedule for Friday night starting at 8:00 PM EST at 100YMM.com

FRIDAY, MAY 28 — MEN WITH ISSUES
The Indestructible Man

The Amazing Transparent Man

Prize: TBD

The rest of the summer’s schedule will be announced when the special events for those screenings are finalized. Stay tuned for more details.
So, join tons of fellow fans of bad films every Friday night at 8:00PM EST over at 100YMM.com, enjoy a few hours of cheese and win great prizes!

Rainbow in the Dark

Ronnie James Dio
July 10, 1942 – May 16, 2010

When there's lightning - it always bring me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry for magic - I feel it dancing in the light
But it was cold - I lost my hold
To the shadows of the night

There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark

Do your demons - do they ever let you go
When you've tried - do they hide -deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You're a picture - just an image caught in time
We're a lie - you and I
We're words without a rhyme

There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark

When there's lightning - it always brings me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
Feel the magic -feel it dancing in the air
But it's fear - and you'll hear
It calling you beware

There's no sign of the morning coming
There's no sight of the day
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
